Strut Your Cuts - Week 3

I was hoping to post more of week 2 during the week but I have been experiencing some major technical issues. Still trying to deal with them, so I do hope this makes it onto the blog ok!

Anyway for week three I only had one of the cartridges - which was Wall Decor and More. I have also been playing around a bit with doing a layout in a monotone feel. I picked greens and white to see if I could still create a layout which had depth and appeal.

After going through some younger photos of myself I came across photos of my first overseas trip - destination -  Singapore. 

I made my own pattern paper with this layout by using the copic airbrushing compressor and attachments along with a large size swirl. Using two different green inks I stamped the swirl. I used copic G17 (forrest green) to air brush. It is important you put the pen in the right way otherwise you will get more splattering then soft airbrushing. Always good to learn from mistakes.

I used the monogram function for the S and then the font feature for the rest of the word.  Then using the flower in page 60 of wall decode and more. I cut flowers with and without the shift and then the border feature for the smaller light green flower fine.

I also used the butterfly on page 29. All photos were mounted on green card stock and then I inked the edges with white.

I also cut the card feature twice from page 60, which are pulled out from behind photos to reveal the hidden journaling.

The final steps was to use smooch pearlised top coat on some of the flowers, then clear ascents on the title and date and then lastly I placed bling in the centres of flowers.

Week 2 - Strut your Cuts

With this weeks Strut your cuts I used Graphically Speaking and Home Decore.

I used the Kaisercraft Photo Display so I could have photos of my beautiful boys with me at my new job.

The paper range I used was the prima Madeline collection. Other materials I used was bling, ribbon and paper doily.

Firstly I adherd the paper to the photo display and then using brown paint I painted the sides and edges of each display piece.

From Home Decore I cut out the swirl, chandelier and the words Memories, adore, love and beautiful. Using glimmer mist I sprayed the paper doily and crunched it up. Once it was almost dried I carefully uncrunched it and then folded it in half and glued behind the tree branches.

The rest was all cut from Graphically Speaking. I used copic pens and inks to colour these cuts.

I will also be doing some page layouts which I will post during the week.

Week 1 - Strut your cuts for Scrappy-Go-Lucky

I was so excited about the Strut your cuts on-going project. After all how often do we buy a cartridge and it sits on the shelf gathering dust.

Well from the list for week one I only had one of the cartridges, so here is my take on week one with only using Songbird.

Below are some of the tools I used. Of course it should go without saying that the gypsy was definitely worthy its wait in gold for this double page layout.

Some of the techniques I utilised were - distressing, stamping, crunching and inking. Stamping of the swirl on the white background paper was done with a grey ink so it did not over power the over look. Plus it is a simple way to break the solid white background.

Layer 1 - Using the gypsy hide function I used the birdhouse with the number 9 in the centre (page 58), where I hide the nine and then using the frame1-s (page 61) I unlinked the portions and lengthened the height. I then selected the flowertop from page 34 in 3 different sizes, the perch from page 66 and finally the perch (fence) from page 71. I cut this out twice with two different patterns from the Bo Bunny enchanted paper range.

I then created a second layer and cut out the same bird house in a larger size as well as the perch (bird on a branch) from page 62 only once from the enchanted paper range.

Using Glimmer mist I sprayed all the flowers and then crumpled them. This is a great technique for giving a flower more character and body. As this flower had no centre I used the silent setter to put a small whole in the centre of each flower. Then using a brad I joined three of the different sizes together.

Using ribbon I tied bows which attached to the top of the bird house, then to create the hanging bird house feel I then ran the same ribbon down the page until it just sat under the top of the bird house which had been hinged from the bottom so the hidden photos and journalling could then be seen upon pulling them down or to the side as is the case for the first page. 

Hidden jounalling is great for those secret little things you want to put into a page but may not necessarily want the whole world to see.

I used the gypsy to weld the word rebel together and then used the word wings from page 71.

And there you have it, a double page layout with only using one cartridge.

My Apologies

It has been a very strange and busy 8 months for me both personally and professionally. So my apologies for not posting for so long. I have been scrapbooking in that time so over the next week I will post some updates plus some exciting new projects I have been doing.

Desk Calendar

Work has kept me very busy over the past month and I have not posted on my blog for a while. So tonight I thought I would upload my post on a desk calendar I did for Karen, who is our new wonderful administration officer at the SBCSWM Rockingham. Karen thought she could get away with not telling me her birthday was coming up. As she has only joined the SBC a few months ago I was not sure what to get her, so I decided to put my creative cap on and do up a desk calendar for her that she could put pictures of her wonderful family in.

 

The papers I used were from Bo Bunny, I absolutely love the papers they bring out and the matching stamps. Did I mention I also love Butterflies, so this was a real pleasure to do. With having two boys I love the opportunity to do something girly. It now sits proudly on Karen's desk.

If I can not find it I make it!!!

I have mentioned before that I will make something if I can not find what I am looking for. So when I saw something that Mandy from Scrappy-Go-Lucky brought back from the USA I thought about how I wanted something to hold my beloved copic pens. Here is what I came up with.

Although I started out with just wanting to have a swivel based holder just for the pens, I ended up elaborating on my prototype and added draws so I could keep all my copic stuff together. The middle draw holds your A5 copic size paper and memento ink perfectly.

By simply turning my copic pen caddy around I have my different colours at easy reach and also the opposite draw to my paper draw is the perfect size for At You Spica pens that have to lay horizontaly so the sparkerly bits do not go to the bottom and also protects the nibs. All in all I felt I had a very productive and busy weekend. Since I have shown you my creation I thought I would show you why I love copic pens so much. Below are just a few examples of cards I have made and stamps I have coloured in.



I also like to make things with a little more dimension, so I will often cut or stamp an image a number of times and build up layers by cutting away a different section with each layer so it builds the image up more, plus you will need foam or gel dots.

 

Other ways to make things dimensional is to use clear strips then attach your cut out image on one end and attach to the card on the other end. As you can see above the blue birds look like they are floating freely infront of the card.


Then we have Jack and the Girlfriends stamps which again I got from Mandy. I am still working on a little story for my Girlfriends.
